Documentary following RSPCA officers responding to reports of appalling treatment, atrocious living conditions and severe neglect of dogs.
Jason Bowles goes to a farm that is believed to be illegally breeding puppies, while Lorna Campbell revisists an owner who promised to get help for their dog's skin condition. In Flint, north Wales, Anthony Joynes is on an emergency call, responding to a report that a dog has been pitted against a badger, and Alan takes viewers back to meet some of his favourite rescue dogs.
In Manchester, Vickie McDonald catches 14 feral dogs that behave aggressively and fight. Later, Alan catches up with two of the canines rescued by her - Snowy, a Jack Russell cross, and Lady, a terrier cross, the last and wildest dog who Vickie encountered on that mission. There is also advice on how to go about adopting a dog from a rehoming centre, with the aid of prospective owner Claire.
The team is sent to a remote farm in Stapleford Abbotts, Essex, where more than 70 dogs and puppies are found in terrible conditions, some in need of immediate medical treatment. Stanley, a long-haired terrier cross, is rescued from the farm with an eye infection and Alan tracks his story. Complications also develop in Lancashire for an English bull terrier called Kera with a limp hind leg.
Alan sends animal inspector Herchy Boal to join the SPCA, the largest dog adoption and animal care charity in Hong Kong. The intention is for Herchy to exchange her skills and experiences with her Asian counterparts. In Scunthorpe, Graeme Petty attempts to help a beagle left inside a hot car, and Alan meets a rescued lhasa apso that has helped rejuvenate a 100-year-old lady in need of companionship.
Eight puppies and their underweight mum are found confined in a small space, and Graeme Petty is determined to get justice for little Haribo, a terrified Staffordshire bull terrier rescued from a house in Liverpool. Meanwhile, Herchy Boal tries to discover why Blade has chronic fur loss, and cameras follow Roo, a dog born with three legs who is determined to never give up.
A 10-year-old lhasa apso is discovered with matted fur and poor skin. When Herchy Boal gets him to the vet, they also discover a possible heart condition. Mel Fisher checks on Tiger, a two-year-old rottweiler, who is underweight and in poor condition. And after rescuing 65 dogs from dire surroundings in a Manchester kennels, Vicki Macdonald finds out what happened to some of those she saved.
Lauren Bailey helps an elderly terrier found outside alone, and Alan meets Dave, one of nine abandoned dogs found wandering Winchester's streets. Earlier in the year, Anthony Joynes rescued Marley, a spaniel who had been kept in a house all of his life. After a few months of training, will he be able to overcome his natural shyness?
In north London, Natalie Bartle follows up on a call about a skinny shar pei cross with an eye infection, and Sandy Powlowski finds a Jack Russell that needs its owners to clean up their act. A runaway husky gets checked over by Kate Fletcher, who hopes his microchip will lead to a safe return home. There is also the tale of a Labrador who has gone from a life of grime to making waves.
Inspector Jason Bowles discovers two malnourished mastiffs living in a ramshackle shelter in Bury. Meanwhile in Derby, two hairy lhasa apsos are found with fur so matted that one of them can't use its legs properly. Elsewhere, teenagers help train rescue dogs in the hope they can be rehomed, and there is an update on Cassie, the Staffie rescued from a drugs den by inspector Kate Fletcher.
Inspector Nick Wheelhouse faces a tough choice about a dog with a skin condition that has made all its hair fall out. A German Shepherd goes on an aquatic adventure to build up its strength, but does not enjoy the experience. Inspector Anthony Puller rescues an underweight bull mastiff cross, and Inspector Anthony Joynes revisits a bulldog he saved in the previous series.
In Merseyside, Anthony Joynes rescues a submissive springer spaniel who has been cooped up in a house for too long. Meanwhile, Inspector Herchy Boal returns to a house full of huskies and finds the owners struggling to cope with 18 puppies. In north London, Inspector Becky Bedson makes a devastating discovery that will stay with her for the rest of her life, and Alan goes out and about with the RSPCA's latest batch of recruits as they begin their on-the-job training.
In Essex, inspector Matt Gough receives a call about a little terrier called Edie who is trapped and terrified, so he calls in the fire brigade for some help. Duster the terrier is also rushed into hospital with a severely broken leg, and in east London, Inspector Clare Dew receives a report about a dog that has been abandoned in a locked, seemingly empty house.
Inspector Anthony has to feed an abandoned dog through a letterbox after its owners left it with no food or water, while Kate catches up with a deaf American bulldog she has been trying to rehome. New recruit Callum has to deal with a litter of puppies living in a filthy flat, and rescue dog Tyson takes to the dance floor with Britain's Got Talent winners Ashley and Pudsey.
Inspector Steph Law takes a fox terrier to the vet, who discovers it has suffered years of neglect. The owner of a pregnant Staffie is unable to look after a litter of puppies while moving house, so inspector Herchy Boal sets up a makeshift maternity ward. Chef Lesley Waters prepares a meal for three dogs in Bath, while on Halloween, chief inspector Matt Gough is called out to rescue an abandoned puppy.
The coastguard is called in to rescue a rottweiler stranded on mudflats on the River Dee, Merseyside. Justin encounters one of the most shocking cases of his career. Boisterous rescue dog Sian is given help to find some inner peace.
