After being shot by a Shadow Dragon, Adam lays comatose in a hospital bed, dreaming that he is on trial for the unjustified death of Michael Sunks, the man he and Dennis were chasing when Dennis died.
Grady is pulled back into an underground world of no holds barred, to the death martial arts fighting when two of his students find themselves in the competition, and in over their heads. Beaudreaux is investigating a string of bodies with broken necks, and the trail leads straight to the Circle of Death.
When Schuham dies in an alley shoot-out, Kelsey is devastated, as they'd only recently begun a relationship. She is quick to pin the crime on Damon Moore, but Adam and Grady believe that there is more to it than that.
A prisoner accuses Adam of taking bribes, and the ensuing investigation uncovers evidence that Adam's old partner, Dennis Malloy, may have been on the take. Adam is reluctant to believe it, but he can't ignore the evidence.
Malloy is shocked to learn that her former sweetheart, Billy, is in town, and while she is saddened to learn of his wife's death, it opens the door for a relationship between the two of them. The only problem is that Billy is widely suspected of having caused his first wife's death, and there are some pretty bad people after him.
After Adam accidentally shoots the son of a terrorist, he returns the 'favor' by shooting Malloy. Even though Malloy is under house arrest, Grady and Miguel manage to get word to him that Malloy is dead, and the three of them go after Nidar.
Formerly a famous photojournalist, Jack Faulkner is looking to redeem himself by catching the city's latest villian, a man who murders nurses. Grady is enthralled with the man who claims to have known his parents, and ignores Adam's warnings to stay away.
When Miguel saves an old man from being beaten to death, Adam is shocked to realise it's his former foster father. He hasn't seen Joe or Catherine Johnson since he was ten years old and he was taken away from them. Unfortunately, Joe is in the throes of Alzheimer's, and is unable to help Adam learn about is past, and also unable to help capture the men who beat him.
When a pizza clerk is shot in a white neighborhood and Willis is spotted trying to capture, the culprit, some local teens assume Willis was the killer because he was black, and this creates a race war between Willis' Youth Rescue group and the teenagers.
Adam is thrilled when his old army buddy Doc Nash comes to town, until he realises that Doc is dying from exposure to an defoliant named Apple 66. Adam promises Doc that he will expose AlterChem for what they're doing.

Despite his peacemaking attempts, Miguel is suspected of killing a rival gang leader, and Beaudreaux has to prove his innocence.
