2007The evil Shadow Lord has taken control of the kingdom of Deltora and has driven the land and its people into misfortune and suffering. Lief, the son of a blacksmith, has just turned sixteen and is entrusted, along with his two companions Barda and Jasmine, with an important mission: to retrieve the stolen seven magical stones that once reunited within the Belt of Deltora, will bring power to the true heir of Deltora and give him the power to free the kingdom from the tyranny of the Shadow Lord. There is just one problem; the seven stones have been scattered all across Deltora and currently reside in the hands of seven wicked men who are not easily willing to give them up.

Lief's friends are captured by Thaegan, and Lief must consider putting his quest on hold in order to save them.
The group lose a member of their party while traveling to the Valley of the Lost. Harassed by the Shadow Lord's minions, they take another route.
The group is swept along the River Tor to the City of Tora, where Dain's footsteps lead them through the city walls even though the Grey Guards are following them.
In the Valley of the Lost, Lief must play a game to win the seventh gem. While playing, he learns shocking news.
The identity of the seventh gem's guardian stuns the group, who enter a tough battle to protect the belt and obtain the gem.
The group must locate the royal heir after finding the last of the seven gems.
Danger awaits the group as they head for the gathering place where the seven tribes must meet to restore the Belt of Deltora's power.
Lief uses the Dreaming Spring to investigate a traitorous transfer of information from the gathering to the Shadow Lord.
