Han-soo settles in Hanyang and opens an attorney's office. Being notorious for his rude attitude, he gets no customers for a long while. One day, a plum wine seller asks him to file a lawsuit against the leader of the biggest guild in Joseon, and the magistrate holds a court for this case.
Han-soo tricks Master Jang into standing as a witness for Pyo, a vicious criminal. He makes Master Jang make a false statement and get blamed for Pyo’s crime instead. Princess Yeon-joo decides to help Han-soo punish both Master Jang and Pyo. After seeing what Han-soo is capable of, she decides to use him for her future plans.
Lady Yeon, the wife of Commissioner Park, leaves her home to stay in Sowongak. It turns out that Commissioner Park abused her and intentionally killed her father to take all of his property. She wants to file a divorce suit against her husband, but it's difficult for a woman to do so in Joseon. Then Han-soo steps up to help her.
So-won misunderstands Han-soo's intention and fires him. She finds another attorney to defend Lady Yeon and tries gathering evidence against Commissioner Park. Han-soo also works behind So-won, convincing Myung-wol to testify for Lady Yeon. However, on the day of the trial, no attorney shows up to defend Lady Yeon.
After Commissioner Park dies, Han-soo searches his room and finds the jade dragon. Han-soo, Dong-chi, and So-won head to Cheongsan to find out who gave the jade dragon to Commissioner Park. Han-soo learns it was Lady Park's doing, so he heads to her house. However, he witnesses a murder scene when he gets there.
After So-won realizes who Han-soo is, she becomes devastated as he might not forgive her if she tells him the truth behind his parents' death. Han-soo asks Ji-seon to help him find the princess, but Ji-seon gives him a new case instead, which involves Lord Chu and Lord Chu's son.
Lord Chu deliberately cancels Lee Bong-sam's trial and does everything in his power to stop Han-soo. Just as when Han-soo was feeling helpless, So-won comes up with a brilliant idea to solve the case. Meanwhile, after Executive Minister Yoo learns about Lord Chu's son's case, he decides to take action.
Han-soo decides to fire So-won and stay away from her so he can keep her away from trouble. He focuses on taking cases that could lead him to the King. However, the King himself visits him and asks him to take a case regarding the new commissioner. Han-soo starts his investigation on Kwon Myung-woo, the new commissioner.
Han-soo looks deeper into Lord Kwon's case, and he finds out that a member of the Royal Family is involved in it. That leaves the King no choice but to cancel the new commissioner's appointment. Meanwhile, while trying to protect Han-soo from getting arrested, So-won has no choice but to reveal her true identity.
Han Soo gets falsely accused of murdering Lord Chu. So Won steps up to be his witness, but Han Soo refuses, feeling betrayed that So Won has been fooling him the entire time. Han Soo gets tortured, and he is forced to make a confession when a group of witnesses burst into the interrogation hall.
Chu Sal comes to Han Soo and asks for his help. He shares how Lord Won Dae Han is trying to take the lands his brother worked hard to cultivate. With Han Soo's help, Chu Sal files a lawsuit against Lord Won. However, he has a slim chance of winning as Lord Won is one of Executive Minister Yoo's men.
Han Soo gets to meet Ji Sun at the bar for middle-class women and widows. Eun Soo is shocked to know that Je Se is the one who caused the death of Han Soo's parents. Grand Queen Dowager visits the merchant house and says the house must disappear so that Princess Yeon Joo would never come back to the house.
Han Soo must find ways to save Eun Soo from getting executed, but there is nothing he can do to stop it.
Yeon Joo suggests Ji Sun to use their wedding ceremony as a chance to interrogate Executive Minister Yoo.
The King wishes to punish Executive Minister Yoo with a death sentence, but Han Soo offers a different idea.
