1972Devilman features Akira Fudo, a shy and timid teenager who has gone mountain climbing in the Himalayas with his father. While in the middle of the expedition, both father and son are killed in a tragic accident. Akira's body is found and possessed by the demon soldier Devilman, who uses his new human form as a disguise in order to fulfill his mission of causing chaos on Earth in order to pave the way for a demonic invasion of the planet. Before his mission can begin in earnest, Devilman meets Akira's childhood friend Miki Makimura and quickly falls in love with her. Devilman resolves to protect Miki and humanity as a whole by battling against his fellow demons. Demon Tribe leader Zennon becomes greatly angered at Devilman's betrayal and is quick to send Devilman's former comrades to destroy him. The other demons soon learn that Miki is precious to Devilman and he must now work to protect her, as well as protect himself. Will the power of love be able to overcome that of true evil?

Miki's father works to reconstruct the face of the skull of a young woman who died 200 years ago. Rokfel animates the skull and begins to wreak havoc in the city to lure out Devilman.
Puppeteer Zulu and Demon Abil set their sights on Miki.
Demon Iyamon disguises herself as a student in order to kill Miki. When her cover is blown by Devilman, her brother Bauu comes to her rescue.
Brainwave Demon Gondroma uses his powers to control animals and spread chaos in the human world.
Devilman faces off against the Gan Triplets.
While pursuing Demon Lafleur, Devilman accidentally injures Miki's father. Akira and Miki get into a huge argument, and it seems as though their relationship is over.
The mischievous demon Firem accompanies the behemoth Aguilar on his mission with Xannin. Devilman finally has a one-on-one match with Xannin.
Xenon dispatches Demon Mermaim to assist Xannin in his fight against Devilman. She does not care for Xannin, and puts a spell on him to prevent his interference. Mermaim moves in and attacks the Makimura family while they are on vacation. As Devilman does battle with Mermaim, Xannin discovers Miki.
Miki is rushed to the hospital after an altercation with Xannin. Furious, and heartbroken, Devilman swears to defeat the Demon Tribe once and for all. He flies to the Himalayas to settle things with Xenon, only to find the Tribe is gone. Himura appears and finally reveals his true identity.
The centaur-type, horned demon Evine uses mirrors to control people's arms.
During a meteor shower, all of the children in town start seeing a glowing red star. They soon begin receiving terrible nightmares and are driven to the point of insanity.
Akira, Miki, Tare, and his friends come across a mysterious storyteller. The storyteller gives children stamps with monster designs on them. At night, the monsters come to life and attack.
A beautiful young woman named Mayako begins working at Cafe Chaco. Her alluring beauty has smitten all of the males in town. When young boys start killing themselves over Mayako, Akira wonders if there's more behind her allure.
Tare comes across a dumping ground with tons of mannequins. Later at night, he sees a mannequin in his room and attacks it with a hammer. It turns out the mannequin was Miki, who was killed by his attack. Distressed, Tare runs away from home.
A new transfer student named Tomita arrives at Nakado Academy and takes a liking to Miki. This angers Akira, who views Tomita as a rival.
Demon Draw has a bottomless appetite and sets his eyes on Nakado Academy.
Principal Pochi and Alphonne see Akira push Miki into a river. Akira is set on proving his innocence and finding Miki.
Tare has a fight with Miyo and ends up stowing away on his father's flight to Tibet. Akira and Miki go off to bring him back home. Meanwhile, Demon General Muxan enlists Bera to expand the Demon Tribe's territory. She reworks her plan to eliminate Akira and the Makimura family.
Demon Giacon uses his powers of possession to wreak havoc in the human world.
Tired of his failures, Muxan decides to go face Devilman himself. All of Nakado Academy is held captive in an alternate dimension.
Akira is captured by Demons Dodo and Demon Lala during a ski trip. Dodo disguises himself as Akira and plans on killing all of his friends.
Demon Lord Xenon places Demon Marshall Lacock in charge of operations. Meanwhile, Lala attempts to escape the insane asylum.
Lacock sends out her second servant, Miniyon to wreak havoc in the human world. He leaves his special pendant everywhere, which has the power to shrink anyone. Lala attempts to seduce Akira, much to his annoyance.
Demon Kenetos leaves behind his cursed necklaces all over Japan. Anyone who puts it on, has their head transported into his realm. Akira's teacher Alphonne falls victim to Kenetos' scheme.
Demon Phizele has the ability to turn any human aggressive and violent. Miki, Lala, Tare, and Miyo have to fend off all the crazed humans while Devilman tries to find Phizele.
Demon Kilskey is dispatched by Lacock to kill Lala. Kilskey later reworks his plan to use Lala to lure Devilman into a trap.
Demon Marshall Lacock orders Lala's best friend, Aurora, to kill her.
Demon Weathers uses his powers of weather control to battle Devilman. Tare and Miyo attempt to save a dog named Hachi.
Upset at the pain Devilman has caused the Demon Marshall, Alron dispatches to Japan to kill him. Meanwhile, Lala is frustrated with her own stupidity and tries to find a way to cure it. Akira mocks her, saying only death can fix that. Lala attempts to kill herself, ultimately throwing herself at battle with Alron.
Mourning the loss of Alron, Demon Marshall Lacock disobeys Xenon's orders and goes to confront Devilman. She uses her powers to slow down time in the city, leaving only Akira and Lala out of the trance. Together, they battle against Lacock.
Lala is killed by Demon Magdler. Devilman fights him to get revenge.
Demon Wooddou controls trees to attack humanity. While battling against Wooddou, Akira transforms in front of Tare.
Demon Dremoon is using his powers to bring the Earth closer to the Moon. Devilman frantically searches for Dremoon before it's too late.
