Siamese Twins, Eng and Chang Bunker choose North Carolina to settle down. They fall in love with the Yates sisters, but the villagers disapprove of their romantic relationships.
The villagers show up at the Yates sisters’ house to threaten them. Eng and Chang make a decision to get a life-threatening separation surgery.
Eng and Chang undergo the surgery, but the Yates sisters show up and beg them not to proceed. The four of them decide to wed against the will of the sisters’ family and village.
The villagers are afraid of a mysterious creature that lurks in the dark. Eng and Chang offer to hunt that creature.
Ten years, two families, and twenty-two children bring about money problems. Eng and Chang decide to travel and perform again with their daughters.
Eng and Chang decide to live in separate houses because of increasing pressure from their wives.
Eng and Chang decide to perform again to save money to travel to Siam to visit their mother, but a civil war breaks out interrupting their plan.
Eng and Chang are saddened by the disappearance of their sons who joined the army. The Civil War ends with the new amendment to end slavery.

Chang’s condition takes a turn for the worse because his body cannot stand traveling back and forth in the cold due to the three-day rule.
Eng reminisces happy memories with Chang. The doctor arrives to separate the brothers, but is too late. Only death can part them.
