Nick Groff, a paranormal investigator who's "on a mission to discover something new in the paranormal field", and his paranormal researcher Katrina Weidman spend 72 hours together locked down in the most haunted locations in their quest to learn more about the unknown. They stay with the dead at these reportedly haunted places, many of which have never been filmed for a production and some will be investigated for the first time on television. Groff and Weidman believe, that "the longer they stay, the more the spirits will communicate with them and the more information they can gather about the unknown".

Nick and Katrina delve into uncharted territory in a haunted jail in Savannah. Riddled by phantom noises, they suddenly find that they are not the only ones locked in the Old Chatham County Jail.
After the owner's tragic death, a Victorian mansion reportedly curses all who dare to inhabit it. Nick and Katrina find the curse may be even more dangerous than they anticipated.
Nick and Katrina head to New Orleans to investigate the murder/suicide surrounding the small house on Rampart Street. It involves the relationship between Zack and Addie who came together during hurricane Katrina. After they survive the storm and chaos, things go terribly wrong with Zack killing Addie and then taking his own life.
Drawn to small town Iowa by reports of aggressive shadow figures, Nick and Katrina venture to the harrowing halls of Malvern Manor.
The White Hill mansion in Fieldsboro, N.J., may contain visual evidence of a child in the attic, but its alleged history as a mob hangout have Nick and Katrina questioning if all the spirits they encounter are that innocent.
Nick and Katrina travel to Buffalo for their largest lockdown at the Statler City Hotel, once the 'grand dame' of hotels in the Roaring Twenties where famous mobsters, including Al Capone, spent the night. During their investigation, they try to make contact with a lonely young woman who committed suicide by jumping out of an 8th floor window in 1947.
Nick and Katrina travel to southeastern Ohio to spend three days locked down in the Bellaire House, built in 1909 by miner Jacob Heatherington. The home was passed through the family until his descendant Lyde, who died here. Her brother Edwin, devastated by her loss, hired mediums to contact her, which opened portals, allowing negative spirits in.
Nick and Katrina head to Kentucky for their 72-hour lockdown inside the infamous Waverly Hills Sanatorium, a former tuberculosis hospital that's one of the most paranormally active locations in the country. They investigate the sightings of the legendary shadow figures and hauntings in the "body chute", a 150-meter tunnel where bodies were dumped.
Nick and Katrina get locked down in the St. Ignatius Hospital in Colfax, Washington. Built in 1893 by the Sisters of Providence, this former facility is currently a decrepit building filled with the spirits of patients who died from the flu epidemic that swept through the state in the late 1900s.
Nick and Katrina spend 72 hours during their lockdown in the historic Oliver House, an estate built in 1769 by loyalist Dr. Peter Oliver Jr., who was banished from the home by an American Revolution mob. The house has seen many tragedies, including children's deaths, and a plague that wiped out most of the Wampanoag population out in the woods.
Nick and Katrina unlock the foreboding secrets of England's HM Prison Shrewsbury, which opened in 1793. For their 72-hour lockdown, they face 220 years of public executions, suicides, and tragedy, including the prison's last hanging of a possible innocent inmate in 1961.
In the season two premiere, Nick and Katrina spend 72 hours for their lockdown at Indiana's most haunted house on Monroe Street, where they unearth skeletal remains in the crawlspace during their investigation, which is cause for them to notify the local police.
