George becomes suspicious when she realises that he had seen Michelle earlier in the day, and together they unmask the deception. Heston brings Andy, the young boy that he is mentoring, to work. When Melody spends some time with him, she realises that he is suffering from psoriasis, and mentions it to a grateful Heston. Afterwards, Melody asks a delighted Heston if he will be her RCGP supervisor, and he accepts. Elsewhere, Julia and Lily realise that they will have to get along for the good of the practice.
Heston has been called to an elderly patient, who is dead when he arrives. He is then forced to referee an argument between the three children as they argue about her last wishes, which were to allow her body to be used for medical research. Lily, meanwhile, is called to confirm the death of a man found on the edge of a bonfire. An eager policeman wants it to be a suspicious death, but Lily works out that he fell into the bonfire, and that his dog had tried to pull him out. In the middle of all this, Heston tries to contact Lily to reassure her that he is not gay.
Fiona is recovering from a bad accident, and has entered a local beauty contest. Melody is not sure that it is a good idea, and becomes even less sure when she meets her rival Dixie, who is an old hand at such contests. The girls wage war against each other, and Melody is horrified at the lengths they will go to. She then discovers that Ted Drabble, who is organizing the contest, is manipulating both of them. Julia returns to find Lily is the new doctor and potential partner. Unhappy with Heston, she contacts Ronnie to find out if she has to go along with it, only to discover that she does. Meanwhile, Ruth invites Daniel on another date, but he gives her the brush off, and she is consoled by a sympathetic Michelle.
It's Comedy Week at the campus and a struggling comedian is doing a spot at the union, so Archie and Ruth go along to see him. Thinking that he is ill, Archie thinks decides to go back to see him, and finds that his wife wants him to grow up so that they can start a family. He is in danger of losing everything, but after speaking to Archie he decides that his wife is more important than comedy. Meanwhile, Ruth wakes up in Daniel's arms, and Lily sees her as she leaves, much to her embarrassment. When she tells Michelle, she is surprised by her frosty reaction. Heston and Vivien clash over the systems he has implemented, reducing Vivien is reduced to tears. When Michelle explains that Vivien has been having a difficult time, Heston is mortified and sends her home, opting to man the reception himself for the rest of the day.
It is Halloween, and a young traumatised boy is brought into the police station. He will not speak, and it takes all of Jimmi's skill to help him. He is intrigued by the boy's drawings, and soon realises that they may provide a clue to as to why the boy refuses to speak. He persuades the police that a murder might have taken place, but an overzealous policeman puts the boy's life at risk and Jimmi must save him. Heston invites everyone to a Halloween party. Everyone is keen to see Heston's house, and when he appears in a Rocky Horror-style outfit, their suspicions that he is gay are confirmed. He tries to chat up Lily to no avail. Daniel, however, chats up Ruth and takes her home.
Rowena has a recurring nightmare that her fiance is dead, which is compounded when Dave, her fiance, has to visit Lily with chest pains. The whole thing comes to a head when she calls off the wedding, and Lily has to unlock some painful memories in order to help Rowena understand her dreams.
