Alicia finds herself on a collision course with Bea after deciding not to report her rape.
Bea tries to give Alicia the help she needs following the attack, while Eddie tries to rebuild their relationship - only to be told they are purely professional colleagues. Jacob lies to Sam and tells her that Blake knows about their relationship. Elsewhere, after overhearing Sam express her doubts that she will last another shift, Ruby attempts to build bridges with her colleagues and patients. A father and son are brought in with injuries they refuse to explain, raising suspicions of abuse - but it is not clear who is the abuser and who the victim.
New paramedic Ruby (former EastEnders star Maddy Hill, who played Nancy Carter in the soap) is pushed to her limits on her first day with Iain and Sam. She expertly revives an overdosed drug addict, who repays her by punching her in the face. Alicia struggles to work with Eddie and her angry outbursts increase, but she opens up when Bea confronts her with concerns about her behaviour. Elsewhere, it's the 70th anniversary of the NHS and Noel wants to celebrate with homemade stickers, while Sam apologises to Jacob for standing him up.
Struggling to keep a lid on her emotions following her night with Eddie, Alicia pushes Ethan away. She then has to deal with Leigh-Anne, who arrives in the ED with her son Kiegan, but a shocking confession from Ethan leaves her feeling even more alone. With Elle's encouragement, Connie has some fun waiting for the culprits to reveal themselves and puts the pressure on. Elsewhere, Robyn asks for more overtime due to her parking fines.
With Dylan nowhere to be found, Connie and Elle are forced to work together to pitch for funding for a new trauma centre. With both women struggling to hide their resentment of each other, their relationship hits rock bottom. Elsewhere, Bea grows concerned for Alicia, while Gem and Rash are tasked with looking after Connie's goldfish.
Eddie realises Alicia is scared of him after discovering that she has swapped all her shifts to avoid him. Meanwhile, Bea receives a phone call about her dad and leaves work to pick him up from the police station, and Sam and Jacob discuss which of the ED staff she would be able to beat in a boxing match.
Alicia struggles to process the events of her night with Eddie, and collapses at work after refusing to take a break. Just as she starts to open up to Ethan about her problems, Elle interrupts. A girl breaks out of her house to run away with her boyfriend, but the coach they are travelling on crashes, while Jacob is determined to get Blake to study.
Iain and Sam find a confused woman with deep lacerations to her head wandering the streets, and when they take her into the ED, Connie instantly recognises her as a friend from chemotherapy. Worse still is the news that her tumour has grown, and complications now mean that her consultant refuses to operate. Discharging herself, Connie persuades Ethan to drive her to London for a second opinion, but when she loses consciousness en route and is rushed into emergency surgery, her put-upon protege faces an agonising wait for news.
