Detective Brodie questions Kate about her father's death. Clifford offers Gladys an unexpected opportunity. Lorna grapples with some serious decisions, and Betty demonstrates her love.
Gladys is torn between her duty and her friendships. Lorna wrestles with her family's changing dynamics and Marco realizes that people are working against him.
Lorna takes up dancing and surprises both herself and the instructor; Kate and Ivan explore the terms of their engagement; and Betty learns what it means to date a soldier.
An intrepid reporter visits VicMu, shaking things up and causing Lorna to examine her value at work; Kate takes an innovative approach to jump-starting her career. Thanks to Clifford, Gladys sees a different side of her father.
Gladys spends a night out with the ladies dealing with unwanted attention from a mystery man and an inquisitive redhead. Elsewhere, Lorna persuades Kate to volunteer with her at the hospital where Shelia works; and Betty's budding relationship intensifies.
A worried Lorna worries for the safety of her sons during a difficult time. Meanwhile, Gladys isolates herself to fight her own private battles, and Betty has an unexpected reunion with a soldier.
Rising tension between Lorna and Gladys is amplified by Gene's volatile behaviour. VicMu hosts a cavalcade to raise money for war bonds.
When a group of Maritimers arrive at the plant, one of the girls, Reggie, immediately draws Betty's suspicions and ire. Meanwhile, Lorna's hot-blooded son Gene convinces Gladys to join him on an adventure that leads where neither expected.
Lorna plans a dinner to celebrate Eugene's success. Vera and Carol move towards a tenuous friendship despite their differences. Kate decides to move on with her life
Gladys travels with Marco and his mother to an internment camp in hopes of aiding Marco's detained father, while Lorna focuses her energy on impressing the girls at the factory. Elsewhere, Betty and Kate attend services at Leon's church; and Vera discovers the perks of being helpful to soldiers.
A surprise visit from a soldier makes Valentine’s Day special for Gladys. At the same time, Marco and Bob exchange words over Lorna, while Kate relies on her gift of gab when dealing with her dad.
With the war intensifying overseas, Gladys is inspired to organize a fundraiser for Canadian POWs, which her parents commandeer for their own means.
