It stars Byrne as Steve Sullivan, who surprises his parents when he leaves his job as a corporate lawyer to take over a bar owned by his father in Pittsburgh. The bar's chances of winning the yearly karaoke contest are threatened when Carol starts dating a handsome singer, which makes Owen jealous. Meanwhile, Roy, Susan and Ahmed meet a drunk Ok Cha.
A plastic spider hidden in a bowl of peanuts leads to an all-out prank war. And Susan helps Carol through a difficult audit. Fortunately, the auditor is a man.
When Ok Cha injures her leg in a traffic accident with Gary, her charming-but-antagonistic neighbor, Steve discovers things aren't quite what they seem. Is Gary at fault? Or is his mom a con artist? Meanwhile, the guys try to cure Hank's glaucoma with marijuana-spiked brownies.
The untimely death of Councilman Ryan inspires Jack to run for the open seat – but a fight with Ok Cha explodes into a rivalry for the position. Owen and Ahmed vie for the affections of an attractive hippy chick until she suggests a free-love encounter with all three of them.
Steve and the bar crowd worry that Hank has Alzheimer's when he is visited by a vision of "Wheel of Fortune's" Pat Sajak, who guest-stars as himself. Meanwhile, clad in new suits, Owen and Ahmed accidentally take two classy ladies to the most expensive restaurant in Pittsburgh, but can't pay the bill.
Steve's morals are tested when Ruth, an innocent Amish girl, enters the bar on her Rumspringa, searching for a man to give her a "wooden bird." Things get more complicated when Owen becomes convinced Ruth is his long-lost-sister. He suddenly becomes her over-protective big brother. Meanwhile, Ok Cha becomes addicted to the power of her first credit card and gets into a minor traffic accident with a NASCAR driver.
Steve is the new coach of the bar's peewee hockey team, but competition with fellow coach and childhood rival Lyle Winkler spurs him to reconsider his "everybody plays" mentality. Meanwhile, Ok Cha meets her "free pass.
Convinced that he should be dating from a wider pool, Steve goes out with a woman of questionable morality, while Melanie dates an annoying nicknamer, and Owen dates someone just a little too close to home.
A visit to the bar from Susan’s overachieving husband Jason leads to a life decision mirroring Steve’s – leaving a successful career for following your bliss. Melanie starts a support group for confused sports fans.
