Celebrity Bainisteoir is a prime-time reality programme broadcast by RTÉ and produced by Animo Television/Kite Entertainment. Created by Fiona Looney. During and after its eight-part original run in 2008, the "hugely popular RTÉ Television tournament" was widely mentioned in the media including such newspapers such as An Phoblacht, The Belfast Telegraph, the Evening Echo, the Irish Examiner, the Irish Independent, the Irish News and The Irish Times. During the first series, a pop culture website asked its readers "If you weren’t watching Celebrity Bainisteoir last night, then where were you?" In the wake of the successful first series, the Evening Herald of Dublin reported in September 2008 that RTÉ was seeking out a new set of celebrities for a second series of Celebrity Bainisteoir set to air in summer 2009, and that a Celebrity Bainisteoir special would air during the Christmas season in 2008. The second series began on 22 March 2009.

The second episode of Celebrity Bainisteoir Dana and her Derry team play in a titanic match with Brenda Donohue's Kildare team in the first quarter final. Both discover that there is no hiding from the rigours of team management especially as both are under close scrutiny from the two mentors Liam Kearns and Ciarán Whelan. Along the way the people of Lissan in Derry and Kilcullen of Kildare discover that their mild mannered managers are anything but! They want to win more than anything and win for their counties and clubs All Ireland honours in Celebrity Bainisteoir.
The first programme of eight sees this years eight hopefuls gathered together in Croke Park where they'll find out who'll they'll be playing against in the first round of quarter finals, as GAA President Christy Cooney officiates at the draw of this official GAA tournament. We'll also be taking a look back at the techniques used by previous Bainisteoiri as the likes of Glenda Gilson, Derek from Crystal Swing, Gavin Duffy, Gerald Kean, Emma O'Driscoll, Derek Davis and Breffny Morgan all revisit their clubs and recount the highs and lows of their days in charge.
