Leonard decides to be a Weekend Father for a 9 year old boy who quickly becomes attached to Earl rather than Leonard.
Clifton introduces Mama to Earl's visiting dad who, on their first evening together, tries to interest her in a business venture.
Clifton is teased by Earl and Junior because he has feelings for a girl named Judy who they feel is not much of a looker.
Clifton reluctantly heads to New York for a barbers' convention, knowing that Earl will be in full charge of the shop during his absence.
Despite her chauvinistic son's objections, Mama decides to get a job to help Clifton out of a financial crisis.
If Clifton accepts an offer to go into business with one of his clients, he has good chances of making big money.
