Back in Paris, Julia does not know what to do with Adam; the latter arrives at her home and makes a startling discovery.
Julia wants to leave Berlin, but her father persuades her to continue looking for Tomas; the latter learns from Knapp that Julia is looking for him; at the place of their first meeting, the former lovers finally meet again.
Having learned that Knapp had lied to her, Julia returns to see him; Knapp claims she had broken the heart of Tomas in 1991 by not answering his letter, except that she had never received it.
Julia manages to meet Knapp at a gala; cornered, he lies by claiming that Tomas lives in Madrid with his wife and that they run a restaurant; annoyed, Julia is ready to leave Berlin.
While Julia searches for him in Berlin, Tomas is in Madrid; he is still a journalist and works with his friend Jürgen Knapp for a Berlin-based newspaper; he is about to go on a trip to Africa.
Adam, furious, is convinced that Julia is in Bruges with a lover. For their part, Julia and Michel take advantage of these few days together to get closer than ever. After arriving in Berlin, they set off in search of Tomas.
While Julia thought her great love died in Afghanistan, she discovers that he is alive, which Michel was perfectly aware of; all this time, he hid this information from her and never gave her a letter from Tomas received in 1991.
Michel and Julia are in Bruges; in the crowd, the young woman thinks she recognizes Christian, her father's faithful personal assistant; Julia remembers her childhood sweetheart, Tomas, whom she had met in Berlin when the Wall came down.
