At the City Championship game against Lakeside, an unexpected family reunion sets the Bell family on a hopeful new trajectory. Filthy tries to reveal his feelings to Maya, but it may be too late. J.B. learns the devastating reason Alexis has been avoiding him. The Crew says their goodbyes to Hughes. Chuck must make a difficult choice that disrupts J.B. and Filthy's futures.
Filthy, devastated by his suspension from the team, struggles to find meaning in his life without basketball. He seeks advice from a few unlikely sources, ultimately diving deeper into his love of language and poetry. He surfaces with an inspired speech to rally the team for the upcoming City Championship. Crystal has a secret meeting that may change Chuck's life—for better or worse.
After the hijinks at The Wheel House, Filthy's status in school has elevated. Crystal is left to pick up the pieces after the school administration—and a parent from Beacon Academy—pressure her to remedy the situation, and fast. As principal and mom, she's forced to make a tough decision that Filthy can't fully accept.
A surprise visit from Grandma Barbara and Chuck's childhood best friend, Skinny sets the Bells on the right path. After a tense family game, Filthy and J.B. finally come to a truce. Chuck is inspired to make a call to someone he hasn't spoken to in years in a last-chance attempt to cure his disease. Crystal learns that a video of the kids' fight at the roller ink is making the rounds at school.
In a bid to secure his spot at ultra-competitive Beacon Academy, Filthy takes up an invite from one of their most respected ballers to their Friday night hang spot—The Wheel House skating rink. A jealous J.B. loses his cool when their Beacon hits on Alexis. To avenge his brother, Filthy intervenes, which leads to an ugly public altercation.
It's Harlem Renaissance dance night at Hughes, and expectations are sky-high. Filthy's determined to make his last middle school dance a hit, but JB wants to dance away his problems—like an overdue essay he lied about writing. But even the best laid plans go awry when a thunderstorm hits, tensions between the twins rise to a boiling point, and family secrets are forced to come into the light.
The Langston Lions are cursed with an epic losing streak. To make things worse, Filthy's long-time rival, Zuma, has been talking smack about his game performance on social media. Convinced that Voodoo is the solution for it all, Filthy travels to Congo Square with Maya, Vondie, and J.B. for answers—only to learn that there's no shortcut to winning and believing in yourself.
Filthy and J.B. are superstars on the Hughes middle school basketball team, but find themselves drifting apart when J.B starts pursuing other interests. Chuck suffers an attack on the court and is taken to the hospital, leading to questions about his health and ability to coach. When a new girl arrives at Hughes, Filthy falls head over heels in love—only to see his brother make the first move.
