A sixteen-year-old boy scout, Jason Francois embarked on a weeklong Scout training trip. The group learned the eating habits of wild animals, and how you should never keep food in or about the campsite. One night, Jason heard screaming, and ran out to see a 400-pound black bear dragging his friend from the camp. Jason threw rocks at the bear until it eventually disappeared into the woods, and tended to his friends wounds. Jason was later awarded the Honour Medal for Bravery.
David James, a fifteen-year-old, must pass his French test and was directed to just take a short hike in the neighbouring mountains. Near the end of the day, his grandfather slipped on the trail and fell almost 1000 feet down a cliff. Inevitably, the first aid lessons his grandfather taught him helped to save his life.
Shawn Durrant, an eighteen-year-old obtained a winter job as a ski-lift operator, and he was trained how to operate lifts safely and correctly. One night, a six-year-old girl slipped from her chair and was dangling by one arm from the grasp of her frightened mother. Shawn stopped the lift, and began climbing a pole, then hauling himself hand-over-hand along the cable until he reached the chair. He was then able to help the mother pull her daughter to safety.
Fourteen-year-old Matthew Sperber flew home from a fishing trip in the Bahamas with his father and a family friend, when suddenly, their small plane developed engine problems and nose-dived into the Atlantic. Each of the passengers clung to lifejackets and they were stranded in the water for two days. When a small plane passed, Matthew was able to produce foam, by kicking the water, and successfully grabbed the passing plane's attention.
While on vacation with her family in Florida, twelve-year-old Melissa Rodriquez became fascinated with underwater creatures. While swimming unsupervised with her cousins, a shark grabbed Melissa's ankle, and she was pulled along the lake. Remembering what she had learned back at the aquarium show, Melissa kicked the shark in its eyes and nose - the most sensitive part of the shark.
Jolene Daniels, an eight-year-old loved to drive any kind of vehicle he was allowed to drive. While searching for a Christmas tree, Jolene drove the family's truck into the woods. They left the keys in the ignition and took the snowmobile further into the woods. Her father slipped off the tree he was climbing, and sustained serious injuries, so Jolene decided to hop into the truck and drive it to her grandmother's to call for help.
Fifteen-year-old Matt Meyers had a room full of artefacts brought from his adventurous hikes. He went out for a horse ride with his father in a wooded canyon, when it started to rain, and they had to turn around. Impatient with the weather, Matt decided to go in search of more artefacts, but the dense fog caused him to become lost.
Hayes Stuppy, a twelve-year-olid d learned about first afrom his father, a doctor. Hayes used his skills of first aid to help his father, after an earthquake - an artery was cut in his father, after stepping on broken glass.
John Ruiz, a thirteen-year-old was excited for a fishing trip with his father. Caught up in the excitement of a big catch, John, his uncle and father forgot about the unsafe water conditions. John's father was very badly hurt, and it was John's efforts and actions that saved his father's life.
Thee uncle of thirteen-year-old Shawna Trantham, while celebrating Christmas, decided to take his relatives in his plane to view all the lights. As they were flying over the canyon, the plane's engine died, and eventually crashed at the bottom of the canyon. All her relatives were hurt, however, Shawna was able to escape and call for help.
Collen Cooke, a nine-year-old decided to embark on a ride in the mountains with her father after receiving some lasso lessons. While reaching for his drink behind the horse, Colleen's father was kicked in the head, and the horse escaped into the forest. Colleen's persistence and quick thinking saved her father's life, and she was awarded three medals from the President of the United States.
Brandon Abston, a twelve-year-old daydreamer noticed a fire in one of the first floor apartments in his building. The sounds of screaming children caused Brandon to react immediately, and went inside and saved the children. He was later awarded with a medal of bravery.
Alex Nicholas, an eleven-year-old was a curious little boy who was always trying to find out how things work. His inquisitiveness led Alex to safety when the Hot-Air Balloon was overthrown by the windy conditions.
