SMAP×SMAP was an ongoing weekly Japanese variety show on Kansai TV and Fuji TV starring the members of SMAP. The show began on April 15, 1996 and it aired from 22:00 to 22:54 every Monday. The show's usual ratings were higher than 20%, which is considered high since most variety shows range from 10-20%. Each episode begins a variety of skits, comedic performances, and/or games.  These are followed by Bistro SMAP, in which the SMAP members compete against each other to impress celebrity judges with their gourmet cooking.  Last is a musical performance by SMAP which may include celebrity guests, as well.

This is a two part special. Part One was aired then SMAP went to Kohaku because Nakai was hosting and Part Two picks up after there musical performance while waiting for Nakai to return from hosting. Part One has the backstage footage of the domino show set up, Want to see it Once more Theater, SMAP Character Best 30 and SMASMA Quiz. Part Two has the Domino show and highlight footage from Johnny's Countdown featuring Kinki Kids. There is a musical performance of Yozora no Mukou.

Shingo goes out to rural Japan to meet a bunch of kids and achieve his dream of painting something really BIG. Which turns out to be an entire train car. Trivia: This train car still exists and you can visit it! Shingo went back and actually restored his artwork on it in 2018 on Ojamap. He even got to meet the same kids again all grown up.
