Sam is offered a job at Amherst College in Massachusetts; Junior is in danger of being expelled from the Palmer School; and Alan gets stressed out about final exams.
Franny joins the cheer-leading squad. Meanwhile, Harry's new hairstyle is nothing to cheer about; and Sam flips when he catches one of his students working in a bar.
Sam strikes out when trying to recruit a great player for the Palmer School baseball team. Meanwhile, someone in the Byrd household seems to have taken to stealing.
Sam becomes romantically involved with a woman just as his former in-laws arrive unexpectedly.
Franny throws herself a birthday party; Sonny and Manu discover that trying to have a baby is no piece of cake; and Harry doesn't have much to celebrate when he finds out that Crystal is pregnant with Junior's baby.
As a tsunami approaches Hawaii, Sam turns the Palmer school into an evacuation center, much to Rex Palmer's chagrin. Meanwhile, Harry and Todd remain blissfully unaware of the danger while up on a camping trip.
Sam struggles to find a replacement for Healani, who's off to marry Glenn—until she meets his mistress; Harry's stateside girlfriend unexpectedly shows up for a visit; and Franny dates a teen pilot.
Franny's lingerie is being stolen; Zeke's drawing of a nude woman gets him into trouble at school; and Healani is having second thoughts about her relationship with Glenn.
Harry forms a forms a funk band; Sam is singing the blues when Healani announces that she might be leaving the Palmer School and moving to Oahu; Franny finds herself in tune with a new friend; and Zeke is sweet on his new math tutor who's all keyed up over Sam.
Sonny and Manu want to start a family; a practical joker called ""The Phantom"" strikes at the Palmer school, where aging hippy Alan Moon is applying for admission; Junior puts Harry in an awkward position.
Sam tries to curb Franny's rebellious streak by making her see a therapist.
After his wife's death, Sam takes his three kids and relocates to Hawaii to begin a new life.
