Hattie makes a bold move, Cindy makes a decision about her future and Ricky helps his father cope with a shock. At the Queen Vic, Nigel steps into the breach to provide the evening's entertainment when Sharon is let down at the last minute.
Ricky dreams of a fresh start for his marriage but Sam has a surprise for him. Frank does his best to help Pat, but things are not made any easier by Dot's continued gossip. Michelle notices that Pauline is suffering from post-Christmas blues and decides to give her a treat, while Sharon is delighted by Phil's continued support, and Arthur makes a mistake.
It's Christmas Day in Walford, and Michelle has an unexpected visitor. Pat and Frank have a difficult day and Mandy learns a lesson about home.
Mandy expects a visit from her mother; the regulars at the Vic are entertained by the mysterious Arlene; Arthur comes to a decision and Pat gets a shock.
Ian helps Kathy to make her mind up and Mrs Hewitt gives Arthur an ultimatum. Grant threatens to explode - can Phil manage to defuse the situation?
Mandy gets a new home, Pete gets an award at the market traders Christmas Ball; and Tricky Dicky wins a prize and asks Kathy to share it with him.
Albert Square is making plans for Christmas. Hattie invites Steve to spend the holiday with her family and Mark starts looking for somewhere new to live. Ian makes Cindy an offer she can't refuse and Pat has a run-in with Father Christmas.
Dot sees a new side to Donald, her piano-player, when the carol practice is held at the pub, and Ian lays on a special "picnic" for Cindy. Kathy gets the distinct impression that everyone has been giving her the cold shoulder, but what will her reaction be when she finds out what Mandy has been saying about her?
As Arthur renews an old friendship, Ian gets an early dose of Christmas generosity and Nigel helps Dot secure a pianist for her carol rehearsals.
Phil is put on the spot over the future of the Vic - where do his loyalties lie? Nigel has his revenge on Frank, but it is Dot who cleans up. Cindy has to make a decision and Arthur turns to an old friend.
Frank has a surprise bargain for Nigel, Grant has some bad news for Sharon, and Ian discovers the truth about Cindy.
