Pitch Meeting Season 5 Full Episode Guide

Episode 52 - The Matrix Resurrections Pitch Meeting
First Aired: December. 28,2021

The Matrix was one of the most popular movies of the 1990s and changed action movies forever. Then it’s two follow-ups Reloaded and Revolutions were also movies. With the trend of reviving decades-old franchises in full swing in Hollywood at the moment… Here we are. Again. The Matrix: Resurrections definitely raises some questions. Like why are we just re-doing the first movie but different? Why include iconic characters if they’re not really the iconic characters and are also played by other actors? Why does every Keanu action scene involve a force-push? What are the stakes here, exactly? Did all the self-awareness make it okay? To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to The Matrix: Resurrections! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

Episode 51 - Spider-Man No Way Home Pitch Meeting
First Aired: December. 21,2021

Spider-Man is one of the most beloved characters of all time, and for Tom Holland’s third solo movie as the web slinger, Marvel seemingly wanted to do something really special (while also tapping into the hype around multiverses. Spider-Man: No Way Home definitely raises some questions though. Like since when is Doctor Strange this reckless? How does the memory wipe spell work, exactly? Why is Electro even here? Is Uncle Ben going to die? Why is Ned suddenly magic, and why did he stop trying to make portals? Why isn’t James Franco in this?

Episode 50 - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Pitch Meeting
First Aired: December. 14,2021

The Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling were taking the world by storm even before the final books had even been published. Naturally, a film adaptation was needed. With the success of the books, the movies were pretty much guaranteed to be a success, and that they were-- bringing in billions of dollars at the box office. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone definitely raises some questions though. Like why is Dumbledore doing such public magic in an effort to not be seen doing magic? Why leave Harry with horrible people and not check in on him? Why send so many letters when Howlers are a thing? Why do they celebrate Christmas? Why did Harry get rewarded for essentially making the situation more dangerous? Why is everyone so happy that he killed a teacher? To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

Episode 49 - John Wick: Chapter 2 Pitch Meeting
First Aired: December. 07,2021

The first John Wick film starring Keanu Reeves was a surprise hit in 2014. Wick’s no-nonsense “gun-fu” fighting style mixed with the mysterious world-building and the satisfaction of seeing someone get revenge for a puppy really struck a chord with audiences, making John Wick Keanu Reeves’ most popular movie since The Matrix trilogy. Naturally, they had to make some sequels. They had no choice in the matter. John Wick: Chapter 2 definitely raises some questions though. Like why did John think leaving the life in exchange for something that could bring him back at any time was a good move? Why did Santino want to hire the boogeyman, when the job consisted of walking through a secret tunnel? And why hire him of all people if he knew he was going to double-cross him? Is anybody in this world NOT an assassin? What was with that whole seven bullets scene? Does the dog think they’re just going for a run?

Episode 48 - Ghostbusters: Afterlife Pitch Meeting
First Aired: November. 30,2021

After the 2016 reboot of Ghostbusters didn’t play well with fans, Sony didn’t waste much time before trying to relaunch the franchise once again to bring the fans something they’d be a little more satisfied with (and make some sweet sweet money.) The result is Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which sees Jason Reitman (son of the original’s director Ivan Reitman) take the helm and bust some ghosts. Ghostbusters: Afterlife definitely raises some questions though. Like why does everyone go about their lives after witnessing several ghosts fly right by their faces? How was the Statue of Libery walking down the streets of New York not a bigger deal, historically speaking? What’s Finn Wolfhard doing here? Why are those mini Stay Pufts alive and cooking themselves alive inside a Wal-Mart? To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to Ghostbusters: Afterlife! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

Episode 47 - Red Notice Pitch Meeting
First Aired: November. 23,2021

Red Notice was Netflix’s most expensive movie to date, and also (apparently) their biggest opening ever. With massive stars Ryan Reynolds, Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot just kind of doing their thing-- it’s no wonder why so many people clicked “play.” Red Notice definitely raises some questions though. Like was this movie sold on name recognition alone? Why did Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot’s characters even involve Ryan Reynolds in the whole first part of the plan if they just needed the third egg’s location from him? How did they know they’d end up in the same jail cell as him? Why is prison so easy to break out from? How is that 80-year-old vehicle still running, and why is there a waterfall here? To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to Red Notice! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

Episode 45 - Eternals Pitch Meeting
First Aired: November. 09,2021

After Avengers Endgame, Marvel has the massive task of not only continuing their surviving heroes' stories, but also making audiences care about all new characters and all-new universe-threatening events. Their latest movie Eternals takes on the gargantuan challenge of introducing ten new superheroes AND explaining why they’re only showing up now. This thing’s getting complicated. Eternals definitely raises some questions. Like should this have been a Disney Plus show? Why do the Eternals only have important conversations at Golden Hour? Why is introducing humans to weapons not considered interfering in their affairs? Wouldn’t the Celestials be interested in stopping Thanos if they need a massive population to birth celestials? Why didn’t Kumail have a shirtless scene after all that work!? What have these post-credit scenes become?! To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to Eternals! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

Episode 44 - James Bond: Skyfall Pitch Meeting
First Aired: November. 02,2021

Daniel Craig redefined the James Bond franchise with Casino Royale in 2006, but the follow-up movie, Quantum of Solace, wasn’t received as well critically or commercially. So with Craig’s third turn as 007, they had to kick things up a notch from Quantum’s storyline about taking control of… a lake? Skyfall definitely raises some questions though. Like how did James Bond survive that super deadly opening sequence where he definitely should have died? Why would Q plug an expert enemy hacker’s computer directly into the super secret spy computer system? How did Silva know Q would do that? In fact, how did Silva plan that entire escape? And what kind of a survival plan is going to an old house with no weapons and then purposefully luring a supervillain over? To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to Skyfall! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

Episode 43 - Halloween Kills Pitch Meeting
First Aired: October. 26,2021

After multiple sequels and reboots since the original Halloween in 1978, the franchise returned to it’s roots in 2018 with a direct sequel to the ‘78 film which disregarded all the other weird ones. And in true Hollywood fashion, that sequel now has a sequel. Halloween Kills definitely raises some questions. Like why didn’t Laurie think firefighters would show up to the big fire she started? Why does the main character spend the entire movie in a hospital bed? Why does everyone keep splitting up? Why doesn’t anyone shoot Micheal Myers from a distance? Is he supernatural or not? Does Evil die tonight or not?! To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to Halloween Kills! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

Episode 42 - Squid Game Pitch Meeting
First Aired: October. 19,2021

Netflix has a massive surprise hit on their hands with the new South Korean series Squid Game, which has taken the world by storm. Over 100 million households watched the battle royale series and it’s absolutely taken over social media with its memes. Squid Game definitely raises some questions though. Like how much is 42.6 billion korean won worth in USD? How is this cop so good at infiltrating an organization he knows nothing about? Was there every any doubt as to who would win the tug of war game? Why did Ali have to die? What is going on with those VIPs? Why did nobody try walking on the massive beams in the glass game? Why did Gi-Hun dye his hair? To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to Squid Game! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

Episode 41 - James Bond: No Time To Die Pitch Meeting
First Aired: October. 12,2021

With five movies and fifteen years under his belt, Daniel Craig is officially the actor who has played James Bond for the longest time. Before he passes the torch onto the next actor to take on 007, Craig gets one last hurrah as the MI6 agent in No Time To Die. No Time To Die definitely raises some questions though. Like is it dangerous to stand next to exploding graves? Why is that bridge perfectly designed for escapes? Is that De Niro?! How did Blofeld get and use a bionic eyeball and continue to run Spectre with it while in MI6 custody? How do nanobots work? Why did every single member of Spectre get together in one spot? What’s Safin’s deal, anyway? To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to No Time To Die! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

Episode 40 - Venom: Let There Be Carnage Pitch Meeting
First Aired: October. 05,2021

Even though Sony agreed to let Spider-Man swing over to the MCU, they still wanted to capitalize on their property- which led to a movie focusing on Venom, the classic Spidey villain. The 2018 movie starring Tom Hardy was a surprise hit, which naturally led to a sequel. So here we are… Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Venom: Let There Be Carnage definitely raises some questions. Like what’s up with Woody’s wig? Why is Cletus obsessed with Eddie Brock without knowing that he’s Venom? Why are we watching them bicker about doing cool stuff instead of seeing them do the cool stuff? Since when does getting shot give you a contact lens? Did Carnage just hack the Internet?

Episode 39 - James Bond: Die Another Day Pitch Meeting
First Aired: September. 28,2021

Before Daniel Craig started his gritty run as James Bond, Pierce Brosnan was the chiseled face of the 007 franchise for years. After GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies and The World Is Not Enough, Brosnan tackled the 20th Bond movie in the franchise: Die Another Day. Die Another Day definitely raises some questions. Like what how did those North Koreans drive through a minefield? How did Bond stop his heart AND fight doctors at the same time? Why can’t that guy get the diamonds out of his face? Why is Jinx swimming with a tactical knife? How is Bond better at fencing than an olympian, after more than a year in prison? What’s up with those special effects?! To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to Die Another Day! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

Episode 38 - Transformers: Age of Extinction Pitch Meeting
First Aired: September. 21,2021

Some people thought that three Transformers movies may have been enough. But what those people didn’t take into account was… what if more money?! That question is what led to a fourth installment in the Transformers franchise, once again with Michael Bay at the helm. But this time, with a whole new cast of human characters led by Mark Wahlberg… the inventor. Transformers: Age of Extinction definitely raises some questions. Like what happened to Sam Witwicky? Why are the anti-Transformer people working with a Transformer? Why is Cade Yeager such a terrible person? Why are we spending so much time on these creepy Romeo & Juliet laws? Why was there an empty 30-feet deep Transformer-sized hiding spot under Cade’s barn? What happened to the Allspark being the source of the Transformers powers? How many product placements can they cram into one movie?

Episode 37 - Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters Pitch Meeting
First Aired: September. 14,2021

The Percy Jackson books are super popular and had Fox played their cards right, they might have had a Harry Potter type franchise on their hands. Unfortunately, after Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief came out in 2011, fans and critics alike didn’t really love what they were doing with the material. But, the movie made enough money to warrant giving the whole thing another shot. Thus, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters was born. Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters definitely raises some questions. Like why is Poseidon ignoring his son? Why is Tyson here and how can he see with those sunglasses on? How is Luke still alive? Why aren’t more people involved in this quest if annihilation is the possible outcome? Why isn’t Luke using his teleportation device more often? How is Luke surfing off of Percy’s wave? Why doesn’t being swallowed by a lava monster hurt anyone? Did they think this was getting a sequel?

Episode 36 - Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings Pitch Meeting
First Aired: September. 07,2021

Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is officially underway, and that means it’s time to introduce some new characters! Shang-Chi played by Simu Liu is the latest addition to the MCU and it’s therefore time for him to get the traditional superhero origin movie treatment! Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings definitely raises some questions though. Like why did Shang-Chi’s father waste time sending assassins after them? Are those technically rings or bracelets? Why do best friends always insist on saying how long you’ve been friends? Why do they all get put in a cell that’s easy to escape from? How can Trevor Slattery communicate with Morris? Why are they in a BMW? What’s going on through all those VFX?

Episode 35 - James Bond: Quantum of Solace Pitch Meeting
First Aired: August. 31,2021

Casino Royale took James Bond in an entirely new direction, transforming the somewhat cheesy spy franchise into a more gritty, hardcore version of 007 played by Daniel Craig. The movie was a huge success and a new direction for Bond was officially underway. Naturally, there was a lot of pressure on a sequel to recapture that same magic. It… didn’t? Quantum of Solace definitely raises some questions. Like are we supposed to remember exactly who the minor character is at the beginning of this movie? Why did that undercover agent blow his eight-year infiltration on shooting some random guy and running away? How did M magically heal? What’s the story of this movie? Why did Bond rescue that girl only to hand her off to a random guy? Is Dominic Greene supposed to be an intimidating villain?

Episode 34 - Transformers: Dark of the Moon Pitch Meeting
First Aired: August. 24,2021

Michael Bay’s first Transformers movie was a huge success and moneymaker and shot both Shia Labeouf and Megan Fox to superstardom. Naturally a sequel was rushed into production-- which led to it being pretty terribly-received by fans and critics alike. So there was a lot of pressure to make the third movie in the franchise better. Um… Anyway... Transformers: Dark of the Moon definitely raises some questions. Like why did everyone forget about Sam Witwicky’s fame? Why were the Decepticons shooting at Sentinel if he was working with them? How does Sam keep landing these incredible girlfriends? Why didn’t the bad guys kill Sam when they had the chance? Why is Chicago being destroyed? Why did the Autobots allow thousands of people to be killed just to prove a point? Is Optimus Prime a psychopath?

Episode 33 - Old Pitch Meeting
First Aired: August. 17,2021

After the success of The Sixth Sense, M. Night Shyamalan was being called “the next Spielberg.” Now, a few decades into his career and a few movies like “The Last Airbender” and “The Happening” under his belt-- he hasn’t really delivered the same level of classics as Spielberg. But, twenty years later, he’s still making films. And Old is one of them. So here we are. OLD definitely raises some questions. Like how has nobody looked into the resort where hundreds of people disappear? Why did they use a famous rapper as a test subject if they’re trying to lay low? If dead cells aren’t affected by the beach, why did Mid-Sized Sedan’s girlfriend decompose so quicky? Why is there a character named Mid-Sized Sedan? What’s up with that baby thing? Why didn’t anyone attempt the most reasonable plan that was suggested?

Episode 32 - The Suicide Squad Pitch Meeting
First Aired: August. 10,2021

2016’s Suicide Squad movie by David Ayer had a massive amount of hype surrounding it before release, but unfortunately once the movie came out-- critics and fans alike expressed their disappointment with the film. However, the film made a good amount of money and had a few breakout characters, so here we are for a sequel! Kind of. The Suicide Squad definitely raises some questions. Like does anyone survive this thing? Why does Bloodsport have the same skills and motivation as Deadshot? Why don’t these people have tattoos on their foreheads? How did Rick Flag not hear all that commotion outside his tent? Is Harley Quinn in her own movie here? What are the odds of Bloodsport falling through a building unharmed into the exact spot he needed to?

Episode 31 - Jungle Cruise Pitch Meeting
First Aired: August. 03,2021

Walt Disney struck gold in 2001 when their movie Pirates of the Caribbean, based on a Disney theme park ride, became a massive international hit and made them tons of money. Since then, they’ve made five Pirates movies and completely milked the franchise for all it’s worth. At the same time, they attempted to adapt other Disney rides into movies, with little to no success. Haunted Mansion, Tomorrowland, Country Bears. Now, 20 years after the first pirates movie - their latest attempt is Jungle Cruise! Jungle Cruise definitely raises some questions. Like why is The Rock always in the jungle? Why does this plot sound exactly like The Mummy and like Pirates of the Caribbean at the same time? What’s up with that guy’s face splitting open and snakes jumping out of it? Why does Frank speak perfect modern American English? Why did Lily intend to sacrifice thousands of lives to save a guy that explicitly said he wanted to die?

Episode 30 - Loki Pitch Meeting

Why does Frank speak perfect modern American English? Why did Lily intend to sacrifice thousands of lives to save a guy that explicitly said he wanted to die?

Episode 29 - Space Jam 2: A New Legacy Pitch Meeting
First Aired: July. 20,2021

Space Jam starring Michael Jordan was one of the definitive kid's movies of the 1990s and became an international hit. Naturally, Hollywood has wanted to make a sequel for a long time, but it’s no easy task. Who is an all-star athlete who is not only popular enough to not only carry a movie but fit it into their busy all-star athlete schedule? The answer is apparently: Lebron James. Space Jam: A New Legacy definitely raises some questions. Like why are there so many Warner Bros properties in this thing? Why doesn’t Lebron try a little harder to recruit non-Looney Tunes characters? How did his son get that incredible scanning technology? How would winning a basketball game change anything for Al G Rhythm if he’s already made history by teleporting thousands of people into a server? Who are these Matrix references for? How did Bugs Bunny survive? Why are the Clockwork Orange guys here?

Episode 28 - Black Widow Pitch Meeting
First Aired: July. 11,2021

Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow has been in the MCU for multiple movies since her debut in Iron Man 2 many years ago. While other characters have had the chance to shine in multiple solo outings, Natasha Romanoff was never given the opportunity to take the reins in a big screen adventure of her own. Until now… Several years after the character’s on-screen death. Better late than never? Black Widow definitely raises some questions. Like why DID it take so long for them to make this? How is Natasha surviving all these explosions, car crashes and falls as a non-superpowered character? How many people died in that avalanche? Why did Natasha and her mom swap faces? How does that weird pheromone thing work? How did only the good guys survive that massive base collapse and fall? How did Natasha get away from Ross?

Episode 27 - The Tomorrow War Pitch Meeting
First Aired: July. 04,2021

Chris Pratt made the leap to action movie star back in 2014 with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and he’s been on that path ever since. After seeing him go to war against deadly aliens with a time-travel plot in Marvel, The Tomorrow War lets audiences see him go to war against deal aliens with a time-travel plot. But like… But different. The Tomorrow War definitely raises some questions. Like why aren’t people in the future sending people back in time to prepare for the war instead of to come fight a losing battle? Why do they mention only recruiting people that are deceased in the future if almost everyone is? Why did Dan dive off a platform to try and save Muri? What was the point of spending the whole movie working on a toxin if they just used explosives in the end? Why didn’t they prepare their soldiers at all for the extremely dangerous mission they sent them on?

Episode 26 - F9: The Fast Saga! Pitch Meeting
First Aired: June. 27,2021

Dominic Toretto is back, baby! For the ninth time! He’s in his fifties now! The Fast and Furious franchise, which began as a movie about underground street racing is back with an entry which literally goes to space. And Vin Diesel swings a car from a rope like Tarzan. Also, the title is F9, for some reason! F9: The Fast Saga definitely raises some questions. Like how did Mr Nobody actually make it seem like Han died, specifically? How do none of these thousands of bullets have any impact on any of the main characters? Why does illegal street racing lead to people have such incredible international spy skills? How did Jakob Toretto grow so much in his early twenties? How has Dom the family man never mention the fact that he has a literal brother? Why is Cardi B here?! To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to F9: The Fast Saga ! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

Episode 25 - Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales Pitch Meeting
First Aired: June. 20,2021

Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow took the world by storm in the early 2000s and Disney had a cash cow on their hands. More than a decade and a half later, they were still trying to cash in on their swashbuckling pirate adventure franchise. The fifth movie of the Pirates of the Caribbean came out, and with the longest title in the world, it was called Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales definitely raises some questions. Like did we really need origin stories for Jack’s hair beads? Why did Salazar make a big deal about “dead men tell no tales” only to tell a long tale later in the movie? Why are their so many random magical items they need to track down? How did Jack have the Black Pearl in a glass bottle on him during all those stunts without crushing it? Why didn’t Elizabeth join on this adventure? How is Will even still alive without the curse that was keeping him alive?

Episode 23 - Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Pitch Meeting
First Aired: June. 06,2021

Jack Sparrow played by Johnny Depp became an iconic movie character in the early 2000’s with Pirates of the Caribbean which, as successful movies often do, got two sequels to make an epic trilogy that made billions of dollars. But because there was still a chance to cash in on the popularity, a fourth installment came just a few years later- with most of the cast not returning. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides definitely raises some questions. Like are we just following a formula now? Is everything now explained with magic? How many different things can the Fountain of Youth do? How did people even discover the very specific steps needed to activate it? Why are fresh mermaid tears required? Does anyone care about this mermaid-clergyman love story? How does Jack become a superhero with a few bits of cut rope?

Episode 22 - Cruella Pitch Meeting
First Aired: May. 30,2021

In the past few years, Walt Disney has fallen in love with the idea of churning out live-action remakes and spinoffs of their beloved animated classics. Movies like Mulan, The Jungle Book, The Lion King, Aladdin and more have all gotten the live-action. Now, it’s the turn of 101 Dalmatians. Kind of. Cruella definitely raises some questions. Like how do you make a villain known for wanting to skin dogs engaging as a protagonist? What’s up with all the music? How did Cruella set up that parachute? Did we really need know the origin of her name? Are Pongo and Perdita brother and sister? Why did she give people dogs? Is it even possible for Emma Stone’s Cruella to turn into the Cruella De Ville that people know? If not, why is this a thing?

Episode 21 - Army Of The Dead Pitch Meeting
First Aired: May. 23,2021

After several superhero movies and lots of heated discussions online, Zack Snyder is returning to the genre that helped launch his directing career: zombies. Army of the Dead (not a sequel to Dawn of the Dead) is definitely not going to be as controversial as his DC films, but is it a better movie? Army of the Dead definitely raises some questions. Like is everything so blurry? Why did Tanaka plan a fake heist when he could have just hired them for the thing he really wanted? Why are some zombies robots?! Why does everyone let Martin roam around free when they all suspect he’s up to something. Why didn’t Martin leave once he had what he came for and was standing by the exit? How were they planning on transporting all that cash? How did the Alpha catch up to their helicopter on a horse?

Episode 20 - Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End Pitch Meeting
First Aired: May. 16,2021

Pirates of the Caribbean was a massive surprise hit in the early 2000’s, so naturally Hollywood quickly jumped on making some sequels. That led to the second movie Dead Man’s Chest, which just kind of ended without resolving anything to ensure that people would want to come see the third movie - At World’s End. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End definitely raises some questions though. Like why is death so impermanent for the main characters? How did Jack and Barbossa become pirate lords? Is that dog magical? Why are we spending so much time talking about pirate politics and magical mythology? Why doesn’t Will Turner step in a bucket of water to visit Elizabeth as Davy Jones did? Why did Calypso turn into a giant and then into crabs? Why are there so many sequels going on? To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

Episode 19 - Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Pitch Meeting
First Aired: May. 09,2021

The first Transformers movie by Michael Bay in 2007 was a massive success and led to both Shia Labeouf and Megan Fox becoming international superstars. Naturally, as is the case with any Hollywood success- they immediately started working on a sequel. Just a few years later, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was released. The movie definitely raises some questions. Like why does Megatron get revived with the Allspark if that’s what killed him in the first film? Why does a sliver of it drive Sam Witwicky insane when he carried the entire thing in the first movie? If Decepticons can take the form of human beings, why do they need to transform into vehicles to blend in? Why does the Jet Decepticon travel by teleportation instead of… by being a jet? Why did the navy fire on one of the wonders of the world based on a random call from a stranger?

Episode 18 - Mortal Kombat (2021) Pitch Meeting
First Aired: May. 02,2021

Mortal Kombat was one of the very first video games to get adapted into a Hollywood movie back in 1995 and along with movies like Super Mario Bros, Double Dragon and Street Fighter, set the tone for video game movies being… not so great. Now, 26 years later, Hollywood is ready to breathe new life into the franchise and take a shot at the popular game franchise. 2021’s Mortal Kombat definitely raises some questions. Like why are we following this made-up Cole Young guy when there are about a hundred existing characters to choose from? How deep does this dragon-mark champion concept go exactly? Why did Cole go back to his family after he specifically left them to keep them safe? How exactly is Lord Raiden allowed to intervene? If death is just another portal and all these characters can come back, did any of this even matter?

Episode 17 - The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Pitch Meeting
First Aired: April. 25,2021

After the release of WandaVision, Disney is continuing their onslaught of streaming series taking place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe being released on Disney Plus with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier definitely raises some questions. Like what exactly is going on with the Flag Smashers are why are their plans so vague? What did John Walker expect to accomplish with that non-vibranium shield? Why would Disney cast the same actress from Solo: A Star Wars Story for pretty much the exact same role? Was that Power Broker thing meant to be a big twist? Are we supposed to think that Karli is NOT evil? Why isn’t the top of Sam’s head protected at all?

Episode 16 - Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest Pitch Meeting
First Aired: April. 18,2021

Walt Disney had a surprise hit on their hands in the early 2000’s when Pirates of the Caribbean, based on a theme park ride and starring Johnny Depp, took the world by storm. Naturally, as is always the case in situations like this-- Disney decided to make some sequels! A lot of them! The first Pirates sequel came in 2006 with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, which was basically a part 1 of 2 without them straight up SAYING it was a part 1 of 2. The movie definitely raises some questions. Like did learning that Aztec gods exist not effect anyone in any way? How does this “morphing into sealife” thing work exactly? Can these bad guys teleport, or is that just for dramatic entrances and exits? Why didn’t Davy Jones protect his key before sleeping, after Will Turner specifically said he wanted it? Why does this movie just kind of end without resolving a single thing?

Episode 15 - Alien: Covenant Pitch Meeting
First Aired: April. 11,2021

Ridley Scott’s Alien franchise is a classic in the world of sci-fi and horror. So like all things that were successful at a certain point in time, Hollywood decided to bring it back in the past decade. Alien: Covenant hit theatres in 2017 and was a follow-up to Prometheus, while also being kind of a sequel to Alien and Aliens? It’s a little blurry. Alien: Covenant definitely raises some questions. Like why is James Franco in this? Why are some significant scenes on the internet instead of in the movie? Why isn’t anyone wearing protective gear on an alien planet? How does everyone not see how obviously evil David is? Why did that girl lock her friend in a room with an alien, only to go in a few seconds later after the alien got her? Why does David think that Xenomorphs are so perfect?

Episode 14 - Godzilla vs. Kong Pitch Meeting
First Aired: April. 04,2021

The Monsterverse kicked off back in 2014 with Godzilla and was followed up by Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla: King of the Monsters-- all of which were leading up to a big showdown in Godzilla vs. Kong. Well, the movie where the big monkey punches the big reptile is finally here. Godzilla vs. Kong definitely raises some questions though. Like how did technology become straight-up magic in the past few years? How did Jia secretly teach sign language to a giant monkey that was under constant supervision? What’s the point of the Millie Bobby Brown storyline? What’s up with that weird wormhole? Why is no one affected by the literal GLOWING radiation around them? Did Godzilla just chuckle?

Episode 13 - Godzilla Pitch Meeting
First Aired: March. 28,2021

Godzilla is one of the most popular movie monsters of all time, which means every once in a while, a new Godzilla movie comes out! With the craze of cinematic universes popularized by Marvel- Warner Bros set out to launch the Monsterverse in 2014 with Godzilla, directed by Gareth Edwards. Godzilla definitely raises some questions though. Like why is Bryan Cranston killed off so early and unceremoniously? Why are we now following his much less interesting army son, who just kind of follows the action? Why is Godzilla kind of teaming up with humans? Why is he in charge of balancing nature? Why aren’t we getting to see the actual fights? Why doesn’t Godzilla use that atomic breath move all the time? How fast in that little whalewatching boat?!

Episode 12 - Zack Snyder's Justice League Pitch Meeting
First Aired: March. 21,2021

2017’s Justice League was a critical flop, and fans were pretty upset with how the movie turned out. Over the years that followed, they worked hard to create a movement online to get Warner Bros to “Release the Snyder Cut” which, after tons of buzz, they finally did. Zack Synder’s cut of Justice League definitely raises some questions though. Like why do three of the Justice League members now have to deal with car and boat accidents? What’s with the ancient lamentation music that plays anytime Wonder Woman does anything? Why did she blow up a guy in front of a bunch of children? Why is this four hours long? Why did that woman sniff Aquaman’s sweater like that? Why does Martian Manhunter keep popping up at weird times?

Episode 11 - 300 Pitch Meeting
First Aired: March. 22,2021

Years before Zack Snyder began sculpting the DC Extended Universe with Man of Steel and Batman V Superman, he made a name for himself with a Dawn of the Dead remake- but really hit the mainstream with his intensely stylistic Frank Miller graphic novel adaptation 300. 300 is a very cool-looking movie, but definitely raises a lot of questions. Like what’s up with that giant hole? If it’s the city’s well, why did King Leonidas just murder a bunch of people in the drinking water? Why are the Spartans obsessed about not kneeling, when they all kneel to Leonidas, who kneels to some guys with weird skin? Could Leonidas really have not found ANY use for Ephialtes even though he couldn’t raise his shield? Why did Dilios decide to tell the troops about a musical goat? How many ABS are in this movie?

Episode 10 - WandaVision Pitch Meeting
First Aired: March. 07,2021

The Marvel Cinematic Universe dominated the box office for more than a decade, and now it’s trying to bring that success to the small screen with some MCU shows on Disney+, the first of which is WandaVision-- a strange sitcom starring Wanda Maximoff and The Vision… who… isn’t supposed to be alive. WandaVision raises a lot of questions. Like will we ever be able to hear the words “Please Stand By” the same way again? Are viewers too obsessed with fan theories? What was with all the Mephisto hype and the aerospace engineer? Why bring Evan Peters over from the X-Men movies just to make a dirty joke? Did this interesting conceptual show really have to end with a CGI battle and sky beams? How did Agatha All Along, a song in which a witch sings about killing a dog, reach the top of the itunes charts?!

Episode 9 - Face/Off Pitch Meeting
First Aired: February. 28,2021

The 90s was a crazy time not only for action movies in general, but also for Nicholas Cage and John Travolta. With over-the-top action movies were taking over the box office, John Woo’s Face/Off was the epitome of craziness and brought both these over-the-top actors into an over-the-top premise with over-the-top action. The movie is insane. Face/Off raises a whole lot of questions. Like why didn’t Castor Troy just take a second shot at the carousel? What kind of a name is Pollux? How did the FBI leave a dangerous terrorist unguarded in an empty hospital? How did he track down every single person that knew about Sean Archer’s mission? How did that prison escape work, and why did the cops just abandon their chase? Why is John Travolta wiping his fingers on everyone’s faces? Did he just bring home a small child without consulting his wife first?

Episode 8 - Transformers Pitch Meeting
First Aired: February. 21,2021

Transformers has been a super huge brand for decades and always a popular product on toy shelves everywhere. The idea of having Michael Bay make a feature-length commercial for them filled with cool cars, military stuff, pretty girls and explosions seemed like a no-brainer! And a no-brainer it definitely was. Transformers does raise some questions though. Like what are the odds that Sam Witwicky would be car-shopping on the very same day a shapeshifting car robot was looking for him? Why did that robot attack the soldiers a second time if they didn’t have any data? Why is Mikaela eating at Burger King? Why does Megatron have the random ability of etching coordinates into tiny pieces of glass? How is Megatron speaking English? Why did the soldiers think it would be a good idea to go hide the Allspark in a densely-populated city?

Episode 7 - Prometheus Pitch Meeting
First Aired: February. 14,2021

The Alien franchise is a beloved horror and sci-fi staple, so naturally Hollywood tries to breathe new life into it every few years. In 2012, Ridley Scott made his return to the universe of Alien with Prometheus-- a not-quite prequel that follows a space crew as they deal with some scary alien threats called Engineers. Prometheus does raise some questions though. Like why haven’t the crew been briefed on their mission until AFTER they’ve been in cryo-sleep for several years? Why does everybody take off their helmets in an alien cave? How did they get lost in the cave with amazing mapping technology? Why did they suddenly want to touch that horrifying alien snake thing? Why did David spike Charlie’s drink? What was the point of Weyland plot twist? Why was that Engineer chasing Elizabeth at the end?

Episode 6 - Pirates of the Caribbean Pitch Meeting
First Aired: February. 07,2021

Step inside the pitch meeting that led to The Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl! Before Disney turned it into a massive franchise of blockbuster movies, Pirates of the Caribbean was just a slow-moving boat ride attraction at their Disney parks involving looking around at pirates and ships and whatnot. Somehow, that served as the inspiration for a massive series of adventure movies starring Johnny Depp and the rise of one of the most recognizable movie characters of all time: Captain Jack Sparrow. The Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl is a fantastic adventure movie, but does raise some questions though. Like doesn’t Will hesitate to throw an axe at a pirate’s back when he didn’t throw his sword at Jack just a few minutes earlier? How are all these people’s massive concussions? Was that moonlight really just hitting one spot in the whole town? Why did the entire crew of a ship abandon it completely? Why is there a cowboy here?

Episode 5 - The Hunger Games Sequels Pitch Meeting
First Aired: January. 31,2021

The first Hunger Games movie was an absolute smash hit and helped (along with X-Men: First Class) skyrocket Jennifer Lawrence to superstardom. So it only made sense that Hollywood would want to adapt the other two Hunger Games books, Catching Fire and Mockingjay, into movies as well. Three of them. That math checks out, right? The Hunger Games sequels do raise some questions though. Like why is Snow flaunting around the victors at the risk of a revolution if silencing them would be more effective? Why is Katniss suddenly obsessed with Peeta? Is Mockingjay Part 1 just about how bad of an actress Katniss Everdeen is? Was President Snow’s big strategy to have an underfed prisoner try to strangle Katniss? How did the Capitol not think of guarding the tunnels that run through the entire underground of the city? Why do the middle two movies just kind of end abruptly?

Episode 4 - Soul Pitch Meeting
First Aired: January. 24,2021

The people at Pixar are master storytellers, and in recent years have been tackling some increasingly mature themes with movies like Inside Out and Coco. Their latest movie, Soul, starring Jamie Foxx and Tina Fey, tackles the subject of what happens to the soul after we die. These are still kid’s movies, right? Soul does raise some questions though. Like what kind of injury did Joe sustain when he fell into the manhole? How is his body totally fine when he jumps back into it later? Why aren’t any of the other souls freaking out about their deaths? Is Joe really the first one to freak out and push on the wall a little? What happened to the soul of the doctor he impersonated? Or the cat for that matter? What kind of a message is that ending sending? Why is Marie Antoinette only a floating head?

Episode 3 - Star Trek Beyond Pitch Meeting
First Aired: January. 17,2021

Star Trek has been one of the most popular sci-fi franchises in the world for decades, and with the success of the 2009 blockbuster reboot, it was only natural that we got a few follow-ups to the Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto-led movies. Star Trek Beyond, the first movie in the Kelvin timeline, does raise some questions though. Like what happened to Carol Marcus? What happened to the life-saving superblood from Star Trek Into Darkness? What happened to beaming bombs onto people’s ships? Why does Kirk think a desk job will help him in the way of excitement? Did anyone ever care about Spock and Uhura’s relationship? How is Jaylah managing to hide that ship from Krall, who’s literally the one who crashed it there? Why do all these movies have bad guys from a different time?

Episode 2 - Power Rangers Pitch Meeting
First Aired: January. 10,2021

Saban’s Power Rangers has long been a super popular brand, selling millions of toys and attracting a massive audience to its various shows and movies. With 90’s nostalgia being such a big cash cow, it only makes sense that a modern blockbuster reboot was attempted in 2017. The 2017 Power Rangers movie does raise some questions though. Like why does it take an hour and a half to even see the titular Power Rangers? How does Rita Repulsa speak English? How did the Rangers know how to form Megazord? What’s up with all the Krispy Kreme references? Why does Jason keep having car accidents anytime the plot needs to move forward? Did they really just slap the bad guy into space to save the day? To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to Power Rangers! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

Episode 1 - Wonder Woman 1984 Pitch Meeting
First Aired: January. 04,2021

Wonder Woman was received as one of the best DCEU movies when it came out in 2017, so naturally Warner Bros wanted Gal Gadot, Chris Pine and Patty Jenkins to make a sequel. That sequel comes three years later in the form of Wonder Woman 1984, which in a historic first for a massive superhero blockbuster - came out on streaming at the same time as in theatres! Wonder Woman 1984 movie definitely raises some questions. Like why did Steve Trevor return through some random guy? Why are they using this man’s body for anything they like? Why is there a fully-fueled jet lying around at the Smithsonian and how does Steve Trevor know how to fly it? How does Diana know how to make it invisible? How did Wonder Woman get her lasso around Max Lord? How did literally everyone renounce their wishes? How did nobody wish the world to immediately end? What exactly is the message of this movie?!
