Kohei Kuryu is a former juvenile delinquent who drops out of junior high and goes on to earn a high school equivalency diploma. After passing the law board exams, Kuryu becomes a prosecutor. Not your typical prosecutor, which is quickly seen through the clothes that he wears, Kuryu possesses quick instincts and a kind of cleverness that only someone raised on the streets could have. Maiko Amamiya is a shrewd public prosecutor who has her eyes set on passing the exam to become a deputy prosecutor and tries her best to be noticed by her boss. Kuryu, on the other hand, after earning a reputation for doing top-notch work, is transferred to Amamiya's division, and finally opens his eyes to the possibility of promotion. Unfortunately, his unprecedented work behavior abruptly brings things to a halt. Although earning a reputation as a bad apple, the influence from Kuryu's strong pursuit of justice slowly begins to change things around him.

2001Kuryu Kohei returns to Tokyo Prosecutor's Office once again. There are familiar faces, but also new faces who will be working with him this time round. One of them is paralegal, Asagi Chika, who is now in charge of going along with Kuryu's whims.

Kuryu raises five other past similar cases in court in which the suspect is Nagumo Toshiyuki. Prosecutors from Josai Branch seek help from Kokubu Hideo who was the prosecutor in charge of the first case 15 years ago. Although prosecutors from other branches are against their actions, they never give up and just work harder.
Kuryu and Asagi are nominated by their former colleague, Egami, to act as support for a big case in the Special Investigation Unit. Meanwhile, Tamura and Endo are on a case of murder involving Nagumo Toshiyuki who remains silent throughout the interrogations. If they choose to prosecute Nagumo, they will expose a false charge that was made for an old case where a life was taken. What will they choose to do?
Four university students have been detained as suspects for their friend's murder that happened in a public toilet. The victim died due to a brain injury caused by blunt trauma. Since there are four suspects, the four prosecutors have to work as a team to catch the person who gave the victim his final blow.
Gondo Akira, a member of Kawato Clan, is arrested for the murder of a member of another gang, Obikikai Clan. He admits to his crime, but Kuryu is not convinced that he is the real criminal. As he gets deeper into the investigation, Kuryu finds himself in danger as Kawato Clan targets and threatens him.
A man is charged for assaulting his girlfriend who lives with him. The victim runs off to her parents' house in Atami, where Kuryu and Asagi go to talk to her about proceedings with the prosecution. While Uno is jealous that Asagi is going away with Kuryu, Tamura is jealous of Baba's lawyer ex-husband who appears at their office to discuss with Baba about evidence submission for a case.
Endo is being arrested for attempted murder. As the interrogation is conducted by the Special Investigation Unit, his colleagues secretly investigate the case to find the real culprit. Endo feels sad as he thinks that his colleagues do not care about him.
As the prosecutor's office is bombarded with cases, Kawajiri is made to take on a case of bag theft. Challenges arise as all the witnesses are young children. While he struggles to close the case, Kawajiri loses his confidence as a prosecutor and considers switching to a lawyer under his friend's persuasion.
Nakamura Misuzu, Kuryu's former colleague, comes to the office to investigate a health product scam with Uno. Rivalry ensues between the prosecutors and paralegals. Meanwhile, Kuryu is in charge of a manhole cover theft with Asagi, and the suspect is an old friend of Asagi's. Asagi and the suspect's past are revealed one after another.
Kuryu receives a call from Josai Police Department, notifying the death of Saeki Wataru from a heart attack. The case concerns a fight between two men, resulting in the death of the victim, Hasegawa Yosuke. Meanwhile, Kuryu handles a case of drug possession of a flight attendant and Asagi struggles working overtime.
An elite, Katsumata, is accused of sexual assault towards a woman. He admits the charges saying that it just happened, but with Kuryu's investigation, the truth is more than what is seen on the surface. However, he has to go against Katsumata's lawyer's influence on the victim to proceed with a private settlement. Asagi is dissatisfied with others' attitudes towards her and fights back.
Kuryu is transferred back to Tokyo Prosecutor's Office. His first case upon his return is a brawl at a pub where an employee was pushed down the stairs. Little did he know that the suspect in this case is the same person that is suspected of a huge jewel theft 15 years ago. As the statute of limitations will expire in three days, will Kuryu be able to find out if the suspect was the actual criminal?
