Maisie added some festive spice to the Woolpack New Year's Eve party by getting a slap from Faye. Despite his initial annoyance at Maisie's behaviour, it wasn't long before Ryan was kissing her passionately in the shadows leaving Katie to wonder where her boyfriend was. Meanwhile, the villagers cracked on with the celebrations, not knowing what explosive revelations the New Year would bring...

Natasha saw a 'To Let' sign outside Faye's house and stopped by to tell her good riddance. What she didn't know was that Mark had been with Faye just moments before and she didn't plan on leaving the village alone... Will Natasha suss what her husband is up to before he walks out on her? Elsewhere, Maisie was happy to hear that Katie and Ryan were coming to the pub on New Year's Eve and Zak gave Lisa the go-ahead for more nude modelling.

Zak and Lisa argued about her nude modelling, with Zak insisting: "Only I'm supposed to see those things!" Meanwhile, Carl reluctantly offered his congratulations to Cain and Charity. Elsewhere, Ryan couldn't resist Maisie any longer and took her quite by surprise.

Charity and Cain had a big fight over Christmas dinner at Wishing Well. But things took an unexpected and romantic turn for the ex-lovers when Charity proposed! Meanwhile Mark divided the day between Faye and his family, and Aaron felt weird around Adam at the Barton’s when they were paired up for karaoke. Plus Nicola and Jimmy spent their first Christmas with baby Angelica, and Ashley had a tragic meeting with Laurel.

He might have promised Debbie he’d stay out of trouble, but Cain still went for Carl with a spanner after he found out that he'd attacked her. Faye gave Mark a ring as a Xmas present and Natasha got suspicious when she found him being super-nice to the kids. Plus Lisa lied to Zak about where she got the money for Belle’s lap top.

Debbie was angry that Cain returned to Emmerdale. But not as shocked as Cain when he realised Charity was still knocking about the Dales. Maisie was hungover after her boozy night, and felt awkward around Ryan. While he felt guilty about his feelings for Maisie, and took out Katie to dinner to make up for it. Sally was pleased when she found out that Ashley wasn't getting back together with Laurel.

Lisa initially rejected Holly's request to be a nude life model for her art class, but the thought of the money spurred her on. But she didn't tell Zak where she had been as she knew he wouldn't approve. Ryan and Katie carried a worse-for-wear Maisie home from the pub and Ryan helped put her to bed on Katie's sofa. Maisie told him she liked him looking after her... And Nikhil was taken aback when Adele kissed him under the mistletoe in the pub.

Sally concocted a plan when she found out Laurel used to organise the Church carol service and surprised Ashley by arranging it all herself. He was touched and gave a moving speech - has she managed to reel him back in? Maisie helped Ryan buy a Christmas present for Katie and the two ended up playfully teasing each other as they shopped. Meanwhile, Terry prepared a dinner party for Val and Pollard, who had to admit his stew was tasty - and eventually agreed simple home cooking could make a profit.

Ashley was about to lose the plot, when Laurel called - unfortunately she only wanted to make a time to see Gabby. And Edna begged with Ashley to return to work, but he couldn't manage it. Charity was pleasantly surprised when Debbie invited her and Noah over for Christmas Day, whilst Carl and Chas had naother fight over the money. And Mark and Faye agreed they'd let everyone they're together after Christmas.

It's was all go in the garage when Carl threatened to kill Debbie if she didn't give him the money. Charity then stepped in with a large spade and took out his legs. Later Charity and Debbie filled Chas in on Carl's behaviour, she was devastated that he put the money berfore her - but he left without listening. Plus Sally turned on her charm on Ashley when she dropped by - but he refused to fall for it.

Carl and Charity had a falling out in The Woolpack. After Debbie jumped in, she let slip that Chas knew about the money all along. Carl went mad at Chas and she stormed out. Katie tried to set up Maisie and Jai, and they got on famously until Maisie realised what Jai had in store for her back at Holdgate. And Lisa was flattered when her art teacher tells her she'd make an excellent model, but was taken aback after he asked her to pose nude!

Adam was worried when Holly went out for a drink with Aaron and his fears were confirmed when Aaron kisses Holly passionately in front of him. Meanwhile, Charity was over the moon when the Sharmas give her a job, and Marlon and Eli were worried about Lizzie's state of mind. And it all blew up when Pollard changed his mind about giving Olena a job...

Debbie found out about Charity's church donation, and tried to get the cash back - knowing that Cain would go mental once he realised what had happened. Meanwhile Adam told Holly to steer clear of Aaron, but didn’t explain why, and poor Ashley struggled with the thought of facing Christmas alone. Plus Moira and John worried about Hannah after she pretended to be ill to skive off school

Aaron continued to ignore Paddy in an attempt to shut out the events of the night before. Adam dropped in to see Aaron and talk through the previous evening, but Aaron flatly denied anything happened between them. Meanwhile Nicola was shocked when Scarlett insisted she wasn't going to claim her inheritance until she knew what to do with it.

Adam confronted Aaron about his attempt to kiss him and questioned his sexuality, while a mortified Aaron furiously denied what he had just done. Nicola booked a fancy restaurant for Scarlett's 18th birthday despite Jimmy's protests. Charity revealed to Marlon that she was going to find a job to pay for Debbie's Christmas present as she was determined not to spend Cain's money. And a terrified Lizzie told Marlon and Charity she was attacked.

Adam and Aaron were out driving when they almost had a serious accident. Aaron cut his head, but as Adam leant in to check out the injury, Aaron did something very unexpected… Shadrach and Zak found Sam talking to someone. Zak realised something was up and started heading upstairs, but before Sam could stop him Olena stepped out and decided to give herself up.

Doug had some harsh words for Ashley but was all ready to apologise when he returned home to find his son-in-law drinking wine with Sally. That was the last straw and when Ashley wouldn't make Sally leave, Doug decided he would. Elsewhere, Holly was gutted when Aaron made it clear he no longer fancied her.

Adam was confused when Aaron appeared to have gone off Holly, but Aaron insisted he was playing it cool so she would come running. Was this really what was going on? Elsewhere, Charity felt very alone when no one would speak to her, and Doug told Ashley he wouldn't allow Laurel to get hurt any more.

Doug was furious that Ashley was siding with Sally over Laurel and told him that if she never came back it would be his fault. Meanwhile, Sally had to hide her glee as Edna broke the news that Laurel had left the village. When would she make her move? Elsewhere, Diane found out that Val and Eric were opening a restaurant at the B&B.

Sally offered to leave Mulberry to make Ashley believe she was trying to be helpful. There was a brief respite when Laurel came home, believing Sally had left the village. But she was staying at Edna's and when Laurel found out, a blazing row with Ashley ended with Laurel leaving the village instead. Could Ashley and Laurel's marriage survive Sally's sabotage?

Ashley refused to believe Laurel's allegations against Sally, so she threatened to walk out. But Ashley stood by Sally, believing Laurel was deluded following the fire. Laurel packed a bag and left. Was her marriage over? Elsewhere, Maisie was in serious trouble with Katie.

When the church fire report concluded a heater had started the blaze, Laurel knew something was wrong. She went to the church and slowly pieced things together, realising that Sally must have moved the heater and locked her inside. But Laurel had a big problem on her hands... Ashley refused to believe her allegations. Would Sally succeed in getting rid of Laurel after all? Meanwhile, Jai guessed that Faye was having an affair with Mark.

Worried that walking out on his family could affect Will's health, Mark told Faye they wouldn't be together until after Christmas. How did she take it? Meanwhile, Laurel told Sally it was time for her to move on.

Belle, Will and Sam are showing Olena around Home Farm estate when Will collapses and starts convulsing. Belle runs to get help while Olena puts Will in the recovery position. But will this unexpected episode expose Olena to the authorities? Elsewhere, Charity begs Debbie for another chance. And at the factory, Priya is forced to step up her authority when her brothers threaten to sack Eli.

Mark couldn't hide his jealousy at Faye's blossoming relationship with Jai. She was stunned when Mark revealed he'd made a mistake. He didn't want to be with Natasha any more - he wanted her. Elsewhere, Sam convinced Olena to stay in the village for a while longer.

Cain hit the roof when he found out Marlon had let Charity stay at Tall Trees. Storming over there, Cain literally threw all his money in her face and told her to take it, because that's all she was getting. Charity pleaded with Cain to believe that she wanted him, but the damage was done. There was nothing left for her in the village. Would she take the money and go?

Marlon finally bit the bullet and told Moira that he loved her. As you can imagine, she was virtually speechless... Elsewhere, Zak comforted Cain and Chas found out about Carl's involvement with Charity.

Marlon was touched when Moira told him how grateful she was to him for looking out for Hannah. Unsurprisingly, he took this as further evidence that she fancied him. But even Paddy couldn't convince Marlon that his head was in the clouds. Was the chef heading for the biggest embarrassment of his life? Meanwhile, Cain blamed Debbie for Charity's betrayal, insisting she never should have allowed her mother back into their lives.

It wasn't long before Cain discovered his storage security card was missing. Putting two and two together, he headed straight to the unit with Debbie, to find Charity with his cash. What he didn't know was that she had changed her mind and was putting the money back. She wanted to be with him - but it was too late.

Charity battled with her emotions over Cain and his money, unable to figure out what she really wanted. Later that night, Cain told her he was in love with her. But was that enough to make her change her plans? Elsewhere, Hannah went missing after getting drunk at Aaron's party.

Charity was clearly confused over her feelings for Cain. She was settling back into family life but she also had the key to his fortune. And people were starting to suspect that she was up to something... Meanwhile, Moira sussed that Marlon had a crush on her.

Debbie was thrilled that her parents had spent the night together and were seemingly 'back on'. Carl was determined that Charity wouldn't have her cake and eat and went through with his promise to tell Cain about their collusion. However, after convincing Cain that Carl was lying, Charity landed on her feet again when she came across the key to Cain's storage unit at the garage.

To prove his trust to Charity, Cain took her and Debbie shopping, stopping at the storage unit first. Charity now knew exactly where he was keeping his money and told Carl she didn't need his help any more... Elsewhere, Laurel talked herself out of suspecting Sally.

Nicola could tell that Laurel was uneasy about returning home and of course, she had every reason to be. Annoyed at no longer being the lady of the house, Sally waited for the first opportunity to do away with Laurel. When no one was around and Laurel was napping on the sofa, Sally picked up a cushion and was ready to do her worst. But then... Meanwhile, Marlon struggled to hide his jealousy when Moira was couply with John.

Doug couldn't bear to see Leyla and David so unhappy and had a word with David, reminding him what a great catch Leyla was. David plucked up the courage to speak to his ex. Was there any chance of a reunion? Elsewhere, Sally enjoyed ruling the roost while Laurel recovered in hospital.

The village was in shock following the church fire and worried sick about Laurel. However, Laurel eventually regained consciousness and was receiving visitors that evening. She was confused when Ashley told her the church doors had been open when he went in to save her. Did he believe her when she told him the door was locked? Elsewhere, David asked Priya out on a date.

Laurel worked on the church correspondence not realising the grave danger she was in until it was too late. The heater set fire to the curtain and within seconds, the flames were raging through the building. Laurel had lost her phone and her only chance of getting help was to ring the church bells.

It was Ashley's birthday and Sally was determined not to be left out of the celebrations. However, even Ashley was in no mood to insist she join in and Sally was at the end of her jealous tether. Laurel found her doing the church correspondence and blasted her for deliberately interfering. Sally left the church, but before she did, she made sure Laurel would regret taking her for granted...

Laurel was at the end of her tether with Sally's interfering and told her in no uncertain terms that if she needed help, she would ask for it. Sally took this quite well but was fuming when Laurel told her she wasn't invited to Ashley's birthday celebrations.

David was still devastated following Leyla's confession and was on a mission to teach Nathan a lesson, if for no other reason than he'd always hated him. Nathan provided him with the perfect opportunity when he caught Leyla leaving work and hurled abuse at her for being cheap and easy. David didn't need any more prompting...

Convinced Leyla was having an affair with Nathan, David confronted her and Leyla knew it was time she told him everything. David was devastated to hear that she had in fact slept with him, and all over taking some money from the shop.
