In Staffordshire, Inspector Charlotte is left reeling by a menagerie of animals including a fox, a snake, a lizard and two dogs. Kris tackles two dogs left in the care of a neglectful relative while the owner is away. Alan helps vet Imogen clean Sonny's teeth.
Anthony gets a report of a starving dog, but he gets a nasty sense of deja vu when he arrives at the address. Herchy finds that a very messy house poses a safety hazard to dogs Roxy and Rocky. Angellica Bell finds out what life is like for dogs on the street.
Anthony refuses to be intimidated by an aggressive owner when he goes to rescue two dogs, one with a serious skin problem. Clare signs over a sweet Jack Russell that lives up to its name of Angel, while Herchy is called in to help an owner whose dogs have an uncharacteristic fight.
A second warrant is issued in the Accrington investigation to search another property, as new evidence emerges that more dogs may be in danger. Inspector Charlotte takes up the challenge of handrearing two abandoned day-old puppies called Doris and Dave.
In the first of a two-part special, inspector Lyndsey rescues four dogs from a squalid house in which three of the pups had been shut into separate rooms and were living in their own waste. The programme also catches up with Mogwai and Yoga, two pups which captured hearts in a previous series and were nursed back to health after being abandoned in the dark and rain.
Herchy rescues a staffie dog from a tower block, with police warrant in hand. Nicky cannot find a kennel for an unhomed hound signed over by an owner to ill to care for him. Claire has a stray bulldog mystery to solve in Essex.
At the Putney Animal Hospital, a Yorkshire terrier undergoes major surgery to resolve a limp, while an inspector helps a woman in the West Midlands who has taken on a lively puppy.
The comedian assists vet Gwen as she takes on the case of Staffordshire bull terrier Annie, who has a suspected broken leg and a mystery lump. In Carlisle, Inspector Sam tries to save the life of a severely beaten dog called Bruce.
