In Bedford, Inspector Justin Stubbs is called to the case of a mysterious accident when puppy Kia the Sharpei falls from the fourth floor of a building. Inspector Sarah Bagley investigates a shocking case of cruelty when she discovers American Bulldog Smiler has been left bloodied and fighting for its life.
Inspector Herchy Boal receives an anonymous call about a labradoodle who is reportedly underweight, with infected ears and dirty matted fur. Meanwhile in south Yorkshire, the call centre receives an urgent report about a dog that is limp and unresponsive, and in the Wirral, Anthony Joynes is following up a horrifying case he attended the previous week.
A vet in the West Midlands reports her concerns about a young dog that recently left surgery after the owners refused to let the vets properly treat their dog Lola. Meanwhile in Rotherham, Inspector Sara Jordan suspects that a chocolate Labrador may have accidentally eaten something toxic, and in south London, vet Alex Wade Smith has a helping hand on her ward rounds in the form of Alan Davies.
In Greater Manchester, shockingly injured saluki Susie limps onto a petrol station forecourt and into Inspector Becky Goulding's life. In West Yorkshire, Inspector Sarah Bagley visits two dogs who are having a very bad hair day, taking the pair to be assessed and dematted by a local vet. Alan plays vet's assistant, meeting staffie cross Brandy, who is suffering with a skin condition that needs the hospital's urgent attention.
